Polyetherimide functionalized carbon dots with enhanced red emission in aqueous solution for bioimaging

Liming Wang et al.

Summary: This study reports a facile strategy to enhance the red emission of carbon dots (CDs) in aqueous solution through surface modification with polyetherimide (PEI). The PEI functionalization not only protects the red emission against quenching by water molecules, but also promotes cellular uptake of CDs and exhibits better photostability compared to commercial red emissive dye. The potential applications of this strategy in cell imaging and cell fluorescent staining have been demonstrated.

Platinum Cluster/Carbon Quantum Dots Derived Graphene Heterostructured Carbon Nanofibers for Efficient and Durable Solar-Driven Electrochemical Hydrogen Evolution

Xiaohan Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an efficient method to produce low-dimensional Pt/graphene-carbon nanofibers (CNFs)-based heterostructures for bias-free, highly efficient, and durable hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The presence of graphene enhances the electronic conductivity of CNFs and supports the uniform growth of Pt clusters during HER. The electrode with low Pt loading exhibits remarkable mass activity of HER in both acidic and alkaline media, and the bias-free water splitting system coupled with a luminescent solar concentrator-coupled solar cell shows promising solar-to-hydrogen (STH) efficiency.

The enhancement of wool reactive dyes ink-jet printing through air plasma pretreatment

Mengyue Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a green and efficient air plasma pretreatment method to improve the ink-jet printing performance of wool fabrics. The plasma treatment increases the contact area between wool fibers and dyes, enhances the wettability of wool, and increases the binding sites between reactive dyes and wool fibers. This leads to improved ink absorption and covalent binding of dyes and fibers, resulting in better printing quality.

Synergistic Effects of Solvent Vapor Assisted Spin-coating and Thermal Annealing on Enhancing the Carrier Mobility of Poly(3-hexylthiophene) Field-effect Transistors

Xiao-Lan Qiao et al.

Summary: By using SVASP films after thermal annealing as the active layers for organic field-effect transistors, a hole mobility up to 0.38 cm(2)center dot V-1 center dot s(-1) was achieved, which was significantly higher compared to devices based on normal spin-coating films. The high mobility was attributed to the synergistic effects of SVASP and thermal annealing, resulting in high crystallinity and ordered molecule packing.

Colloidal carbon quantum dots as light absorber for efficient and stable ecofriendly photoelectrochemical hydrogen generation

Xiaohan Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated a highly efficient and stable ecofriendly PEC device using C-dots sensitized TiO2 photoanode, Pt loaded on carbon nanofibers as counter electrode, and glucose aqueous solution as electrolyte. The C-dots showed excellent optical properties and structure, interacting strongly with TiO2 to form a stable complex. The PEC devices based on C-dots exhibited a saturated photocurrent density as high as about 4 mA/cm(2) at 0.6 V vs. RHE, and maintained 95% of their initial value after 10-hour illumination at 100 mW/cm(2).
