Prediction of life-threatening and disabling bleeding in patients with AML receiving intensive induction chemotherapy

Summary: This study aimed to determine the incidence and risk factors of grade 4 bleeding in patients with acute myeloid leukemia receiving intensive induction chemotherapy. Through retrospective assessment of bleeding events and multivariable analysis, independent risk factors associated with grade 4 bleeding were identified. The study found that baseline platelet count and international normalized ratio were important predictors of grade 4 bleeding. A simple risk model was developed to evaluate patients' risk of grade 4 bleeding.

Summary: Leukostasis is a life-threatening complication that occurs when there are high concentrations of leukemic cells in the bloodstream, most commonly myeloblasts. Effective care involves early recognition and treatment, as well as managing complications of the underlying leukemia.
