Separation and Recovery of Vanadium, Nickel, and Aluminum from Acid Leaching Solution of Spent Hydrodesulfurization Catalyst by a Solvent Extraction-Oxalic Acid Precipitation Process

Jinrong Ju et al.

Summary: In this paper, a solvent extraction-oxalic acid precipitation process was studied for the efficient recovery of vanadium, nickel, and aluminum from the acid leaching solution of spent hydrodesulfurization catalyst. The process conditions for extracting vanadium with Cyanex 272 and precipitating nickel using oxalic acid were explored. The results showed high extraction efficiency for vanadium and selective extraction of nickel from the solution containing a high concentration of aluminum. The proposed flowsheet may provide a new idea for the comprehensive recovery of valuable metals.

A leaching, solvent extraction, stripping, precipitation and calcination process for the recovery of MoO3 and NiO from spent hydrofining catalysts

Yaxing Han et al.

Summary: This study proposes a hydrometallurgical process for the selective recovery of MoO3 and NiO from spent hydrofining catalysts. The valuable metals were leached with H2SO4 and H2O2, resulting in high dissolution efficiencies. Bis-(2-ethylhexy)phosphinic acid was chosen as the extractant for Mo due to its higher separation factors. A synergistic extraction system was employed to extract Ni, with extraction efficiencies of more than 99.9%. The two oxides MoO3 and NiO were successfully prepared from the stripping solution.

A review of metallurgical processes and purification techniques for recovering Mo, V, Ni, Co, Al from spent catalysts

Xin Liang et al.

Summary: The recovery of valuable metals from spent catalysts has become a focus of research due to industrialization and depleting ore resources. Among the three methods - hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, and pyro-hydrometallurgy - pyro-hydrometallurgy seems to be the best choice as it combines the advantages of both pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy. It retains selectivity to metals like nickel and iron, reduces processing difficulty, and has high purity and selectivity when separating and purifying the leached valuable metals, making it a noteworthy technology.

Recovery of Zn as ZnO from Steelmaking Waste Materials by Mechanochemical Leaching, Solvent Extraction, Precipitation, and Thermal Decomposition Route

Ahmet Orkun Kalpakli et al.

Summary: A large amount of EAFD, a hazardous waste from steelmaking, contains zinc. This study investigated the recovery of Zn as ZnO from EAFD through mechanochemical leaching, solvent extraction, precipitation, and thermal decomposition. Optimal leaching parameters and efficient extraction and precipitation processes were determined to obtain high-purity ZnO.

Leaching Kinetics of Mo, Ni, and Al Oxides from Spent Nickel-Molybdenum Hydrodesulfurization Catalyst in H2SO4 Solution

Sedat Ilhan et al.

Summary: The leaching efficiency of spent Ni-Mo hydrodesulfurization catalyst was investigated by studying the effects of grinding, stirring speed, H2SO4 concentration, and temperature. The leaching behavior and kinetics of MoO3, NiMoO4, Al2O3, and AlPO4 from the spent catalyst were determined. The apparent activation energy values for the leaching of MoO3, NiMoO4, Al2O3, and AlPO4 in H2SO4 solutions were calculated.

Recovery of molybdenum, cobalt and nickel from spent hydrodesulphurization catalyst through oxidizing roast followed by sodium persulfate leaching

Hasan Arslanoglu et al.

Summary: The study aimed to achieve high-yield recovery of Ni, Mo and Co by removing the carbon from the spent HDS catalyst structure and converting the metal oxides to soluble form through a leaching process after roasting pre-treatment. The liquid film diffusion control mechanism was found to best represent the leaching process, with low activation energy values (<20 kJ/mol) indicating that the process is controlled by liquid film diffusion.
