Culturally-adapted behavioral intervention to improve colorectal cancer screening uptake among foreign-born South Asians in New Jersey: the Desi Sehat trial

Sharon L. Manne et al.

Summary: The study developed a culturally-targeted intervention called Desi Sehat for foreign-born South Asians focusing on CRC screening, with high acceptance rate and attendance. Four months after the intervention, CRC screening uptake increased by 30%, knowledge significantly improved, and worries and barriers related to CRC screening decreased significantly. Future research should focus on improving recruitment and retention, possibly implementing a randomized control design.

Comparing Different Interventions' Effects on Latinas' Screening Mammography Attainment and Participant-Driven Information Diffusion

Yamile Molina et al.

Summary: The evaluation of multiple community-based approaches to improve Latinas' breast cancer screening utilization showed inconsistent results. A pilot study found that an empower+LA approach was more effective than an educate+LA approach in increasing mammography rates and promoting breast cancer discussions among Latinas. This study highlights the importance of evaluating behavioral interventions in terms of behavioral and spillover network effects.
