Revisiting the Role of Charge Transfer in the Emission Properties of Carborane-Fluorophore Systems: A TDDFT Investigation

Duygu Tahaoglu et al.

Summary: In this study, the S-1 potential energy surface of o-CB-fluorophore systems is investigated in detail, with a focus on the effects of substituents and fluorophore energy levels. The results show the presence of a non-emissive charge transfer state due to significant C-C bond elongation in o-CB, and the energetics of this state is influenced by different substituents and fluorophore energy levels. This study provides valuable insights for the design and optimization of emissive o-CB-fluorophore systems.

Crucial Factors Regulating Intramolecular Charge-Transfer-Based Radiative Efficiency in ortho-Carboranyl Luminophores: Planarity between Substituted Biphenyl Rings

Mingi Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, 13 o-Carboranyl compounds with different geometries were synthesized and characterized to evaluate their radiative decay efficiency by observing their luminescent performance in the crystalline state. The results showed that increasing the dihedral angles between the biphenyl rings gradually decreased the emission efficiencies, and the radiative decay constants decreased linearly with increasing dihedral angles, indicating an inversely proportional relationship between these two factors.

Regulation of solid-state dual-emission properties by switching luminescence processes based on a bis-o-carborane-modified anthracene triad

Kazuhiro Yuhara et al.

Summary: We demonstrate the design of dual-emission properties in crystals, which can switch luminescence processes based on temperature changes. The intensity ratios between the dual emissions are sensitive to temperature, making it suitable for ratiometric sensing systems.

Thermodynamic equilibrium between locally excited and charge-transfer states through thermally activated charge transfer in 1-(pyren-2′-yl)-o-carborane

Lei Ji et al.

Summary: Reversible conversion between excited states is crucial in various photophysical phenomena. By conducting experiments and calculations, we discovered that the energy gaps and barriers among the locally-excited and charge-transfer states in 1-(pyren-2'-yl)-o-carborane are negligible, making all three states accessible at room temperature. Furthermore, the internal-conversion and reverse internal-conversion processes occur much faster than radiative decay, resulting in the same lifetimes and thermodynamic equilibrium of the two states.

Switching between intramolecular charge transfer and excimer emissions in solids based on aryl-modified ethynyl-o-carboranes

Hideki Yamamoto et al.

Summary: Stimulus-responsive luminochromic materials based on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon modified with the ethynyl-o-carborane unit are reported in this paper. The study of single o-carborane-substituted anthracene and ethynyl-o-carboranes at both ends of PAHs reveals the relationship between the luminescent mechanism changes and stimuli response.

Recovering the Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence in Aggregation-Induced Emitters of Carborane

Zhaojin Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that Janus carboranes have low luminescence efficiency in solutions, but the efficiency increases in aggregates and solid, showing AIE enhancement. By doping with 1,3-bis(carbazol-9-yl)benzene (mCP), the TADF properties of Cb-1/2/3 were successfully restored, achieving high external quantum efficiency and maximum brightness in organic light-emitting diodes.
