Modes and geometry of crustal-scale detachment folding in hot orogens-Insights from physical modeling

Ondrej Kryza et al.

Summary: This study investigates the geometric, kinematic, and dynamic behavior of crustal-scale detachment folds using heated paraffin wax as an analogue. Five different regimes of lower crustal deformation were identified, and the evolution of folds was found to be asymmetrical. The study also revealed flexural flow of the lower weak crust and pressure gradients in the fold cores controlling the injections and outflows of molten material.

Paleoproterozoic collision tectonics in West Africa: Insights into the geodynamics of continental growth

Kalidou Traore et al.

Summary: By combining photointerpretation with the extraction of structural data from geological quadrangle maps, the collision processes between the Eburnean orogen and the Archean craton have been deciphered. This collision involved oblique transcurrent shearing and resulted in the asymmetrical indentation and escape of the orogen. Lithospheric mantle delamination explained the intense heat advection and thermal softening of the crust during the collisional orogeny.

Archean to Paleoproterozoic crustal evolution in the Sassandra-Cavally domain (Co?te d?Ivoire, West Africa): Insights from Hf and U-Pb zircon analyses

Augustin Y. Koffi et al.

Summary: The crustal evolution in the south West African Craton was influenced by juvenile material input around 2.1 Ga, and the impact of pre-existing Archean crustal domains on the Paleoproterozoic continental mass remains unclear. The Sassandra-Cavally (SASCA) domain, located in Cote d'Ivoire, provides valuable insights into the transition between the Archean and Paleoproterozoic terranes. Zircon grains extracted from migmatitic gneisses, metasedimentary rocks, and a granitic intrusion underwent U-Pb and Lu-Hf isotopic analyses using LA-(MC-)ICP-MS. The results suggest that the migmatitic gneisses were derived from the mantle during the Paleoarchean and underwent substantial reworking in the Mesoarchean, while the metasedimentary units contain detrital zircon grains with Paleoproterozoic ages, indicating a juvenile source. The intrusion exhibits a hybrid isotopic signature, suggesting a complex geological history.

Petrogenetic links between rare metal-bearing pegmatites and TTG gneisses in the West African Craton: The Mangodara district of SW Burkina Faso

Wiledio Marc-Emile Bonzi et al.

Summary: The geological context of rare metal-bearing pegmatites from the Mangodara district in Burkina Faso is described, along with their petrogenesis and links with the host rocks. The gneiss-granitoid complex is suggested to have formed by partial melting of paragneiss, with syntectonic segregation of the pegmatite-forming magmas. U-Pb dating confirms that partial melting, melt segregation and crystallization cooling occurred during the Eburnean orogeny.

Mineralogy, Fluid Inclusion, and C-O-Sr Isotope Geochemistry to Unravel the Evolution of the Magmatic-Hydrothermal System at the Igoudrane Silver-Rich Deposit (Imiter District, Eastern Anti-Atlas, Morocco)

Mamadoudjan Diallo et al.

Summary: The Igoudrane mine in the Imiter district of Morocco is one of the most productive mines in the area, producing 700,000 tonnes of ore with a grade of 485 g/t Ag. The silver-rich deposit occurs mainly as vein- and hydrothermal breccia-hosted orebodies at the interface between different geological formations. The ore formation involved multiple paragenetic stages, with varying mineral compositions and fluid inclusion data suggesting changes in temperature and pressure over time.
