Exposure-Response Functions for the Effects of Traffic Noise on Self-Reported Annoyance and Sleep Disturbance in Finland: Effect of Exposure Estimation Method

Tarja Yli-Tuomi et al.

Summary: There are large variations in transportation noise tolerance between communities. The exposure-response functions for the effects of transportation noise depend on both population sensitivity and the exposure estimation method used. The CNOSSOS-EU method, which changed the assignment of noise levels and populations to buildings, has been shown to significantly impact the estimations of exposure to traffic noise in Finland.

Effects of thermal and acoustic environments on workers' psychological and physiological stress in deep underground spaces

Bin Yang et al.

Summary: This research aims to study the combined effects of thermal and acoustic environments on the psychological and physiological stress of workers in deep underground spaces. The results showed that temperature and relative humidity influenced emotions through their impact on thermal responses. Low relative humidity could compensate for the discomfort caused by high temperatures. Temperature had the greatest influence on workers' psychological and physiological stresses.

Is mixed-mode ventilation a comfortable low-energy solution? A literature review

Jungsoo Kim et al.

Summary: This paper reviews important research themes in mixed-mode buildings, highlighting the differences in occupant perception of indoor thermal environment based on building operation mode. Occupants in mixed-mode buildings have a wider comfort zone compared to fully air-conditioned buildings, with significant energy saving potential. Future research should focus on optimizing comfort, control level, and associated energy demands.

Personalized ceiling fans: Effects of air motion, air direction and personal control on thermal comfort

Romina Rissetto et al.

Summary: Research on personal comfort systems, particularly personal ceiling fans, has shown positive effects on thermal comfort and satisfaction in indoor environments. Factors such as control over fan speed and previous experience with fans can significantly impact individuals' thermal perception and satisfaction levels. Encouraging acceptance of personal ceiling fans suggests their potential use in retrofitted office buildings to improve thermal comfort and promote energy savings.
