Physical activity and all-cause and cause-specific mortality: assessing the impact of reverse causation and measurement error in two large prospective cohorts

Dong Hoon Lee et al.

Summary: The study found that baseline or simple updated physical activity measurements are susceptible to bias, while cumulative average physical activity measurements showed strong evidence that physical activity is inversely associated with mortality in a dose-response manner.

The physical activity paradox in cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality: the contemporary Copenhagen General Population Study with 104 046 adults

Andreas Holtermann et al.

Summary: Leisure time physical activity is associated with reduced risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and all-cause mortality, while occupational physical activity is linked to increased risks, independently of each other. There is no significant interaction between the two domains of physical activity in terms of MACE or all-cause mortality risk.

Is occupational physical activity associated with mortality in UK Biobank?

Matthew Pearce et al.

Summary: This study found that retirement was associated with lower mortality in women, but unemployment was associated with higher mortality in men. Among the working population, there were no significant differences in mortality rates for all causes, cardiovascular disease, or cancer between those with higher levels of OAP and the reference group with lower OAP levels, for both women and men. Working fewer than 35 hours per week was linked to lower mortality in both women and men compared to working 35-40 hours per week, regardless of OAP.
