Factors Associated With Off-Label Utilization of Second-Generation Antipsychotics Among Publicly Insured Adults

Marcela Horvitz-Lennon et al.

Summary: The study found that a significant percentage of users of second-generation antipsychotics engaged in off-label utilization, despite the known risks associated with these drugs. Racial-ethnic minority groups were less likely to engage in off-label utilization compared to Whites, and payer policies were found to impact off-label utilization rates. Trends showed an increase in off-label utilization initially, followed by a downward trend in some states.
