Systematic review of Mendelian randomization studies on risk of cancer

Georgios Markozannes et al.

Summary: This study aimed to map and evaluate the current state of research on Mendelian randomization (MR) literature regarding cancer risk. It found that only a limited number of associations were supported by robust evidence for causality, and the majority of associations were not evaluated through MR sensitivity analysis. Future research should prioritize thorough assessment of sensitivity MR analyses and transparent reporting.

Hunger Training as a Self-regulation Strategy in a Comprehensive Weight Loss Program for Breast Cancer Prevention: A Randomized Feasibility Study

Summary: This study demonstrated the feasibility of adding hunger training to a comprehensive weight management program targeting postmenopausal women at high risk of breast cancer, although preliminary examination suggests that it does not enhance weight loss or metabolic changes.

The Breast Cancer Weight Loss trial (Alliance A011401): A description and evidence for the lifestyle intervention

Linda M. Delahanty et al.

Summary: The Breast Cancer Weight Loss (BWEL) trial is a randomized controlled trial that aims to determine whether weight loss after a breast cancer diagnosis can reduce the risk of cancer recurrence in women with overweight or obesity. The trial compares the efficacy of a telephone-based weight-loss intervention plus health education materials with health education materials alone on invasive disease-free survival in women with stage II or III breast cancer and BMI > 27 kg/m(2). The intervention focuses on achieving and maintaining a weight loss of >= 10% of baseline weight through increased physical activity and caloric restriction, and it is provided over a 2-year period through 42 sessions delivered by trained health coaches.

A systematic review of inequalities in the uptake of, adherence to, and effectiveness of behavioral weight management interventions in adults

Jack M. Birch et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review on inequalities in behavioral weight management interventions trials, finding that most trials did not show an inequality gradient. However, when inequalities were observed, those with more advantages tended to perform better. Alternative methods of data synthesis may help in understanding inequalities in such interventions.

Weight-loss interventions for improving emotional eating among adults with high body mass index: A systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression

Han Shi Jocelyn Chew et al.

Summary: The study found that weight-loss interventions were effective in reducing emotional eating and promoting weight loss among adults. The interventions showed small-to-medium effects on emotional eating, uncontrolled eating, and cognitive restraint. The effects were most significant at 3-month post-intervention for emotional eating, and at 12-month post-intervention for BMI and weight. Factors such as age, gender, baseline BMI, attrition rate, and intervention length did not significantly affect the results.

A Review of Telemedicine Interventions for Weight Loss

Kelsey Ufholz et al.

Summary: Telemedicine has become popular as an alternative for in-person weight loss treatment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Real-time telemedicine interventions focusing on weight loss have shown improvements in weight and weight-related outcomes, but more research is needed on the impact of long-term interventions and on specific populations such as seniors, men, and ethnic minorities. Additionally, the success of interventions is linked to self-monitoring, while videoconferencing may enhance the interpersonal connection associated with in-person care but remains understudied compared to other modalities.

Intermittent Versus Continuous Energy Restriction for Weight Loss and Metabolic Improvement: A Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review

Summary: This study found that intermittent energy restriction (IER) was more beneficial for short-term weight loss and metabolic improvements in adults with overweight or obesity compared to continuous energy restriction (CER). Furthermore, longer randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are needed to confirm these findings.

Does Personalized Nutrition Advice Improve Dietary Intake in Healthy Adults? A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials

Summary: Evidence suggests that personalized nutrition advice can lead to greater improvements in dietary intake compared to generalized advice. Additional well-designed trials with a broader range of dietary outcomes and comparisons between personalized approaches based on diet, biology, and lifestyle are needed.

Summary: The study demonstrates that for individuals with obesity, once-weekly use of 2.4 mg semaglutide in combination with lifestyle intervention can lead to sustained and clinically relevant weight loss, with significant improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors and physical functioning reported by participants.

Jonathan Pearson-Stuttard et al.

Summary: The study summarized evidence from observational and Mendelian randomization studies, finding a clear association between type 2 diabetes and colorectal, hepatocellular, gallbladder, breast, endometrial, and pancreatic cancers. Potential causal associations were identified for genetically predicted T2DM and fasting insulin concentrations with endometrial, pancreas, kidney, breast, lung, and cervical cancer risk.

WISER Survivor Trial: Combined Effect of Exercise and Weight Loss Interventions on Insulin and Insulin Resistance in Breast Cancer Survivors

Nicholas J. D'Alonzo et al.

Summary: Exercise, weight loss, and combined intervention have been shown to reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence, potentially through lowering insulin levels and improving insulin sensitivity. Weight loss of >= 10% is associated with significant reductions in insulin and insulin resistance levels, especially important for breast cancer survivors with clinically abnormal C-peptide levels.

Testing a breast cancer prevention and a multiple disease prevention weight loss programme amongst women within the UK NHS breast screening programme-a randomised feasibility study

Michelle Harvie et al.

Summary: The study tested the feasibility and acceptability of a weight loss/behavior change program aimed at reducing breast cancer risk compared to a multiple disease prevention program among women attending breast screening. Results showed that both programs had comparable uptake and retention rates, and achieved good weight loss outcomes over a 12-month period. The multiple disease prevention program identified previously unknown cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk factors but did not increase engagement with behavior change beyond a standard breast cancer prevention program.
