Shearless bifurcations in particle transport for reversed-shear tokamaks

G. C. Grime et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the influence of the vicinity of extrema of the plasma equilibrium profiles on internal transport barriers in tokamaks. The guiding-center trajectories of plasma particles undergoing E x B drift motion, as well as a stationary non-monotonic radial profile of the electric field and an electrostatic fluctuation, are considered. By changing the safety factor profile parameters, the appearance and breakup of shearless barriers are observed. The breakup and recovery of these shearless curves are explained using concepts from bifurcation theory, and bifurcation sequences associated with the creation of multiple shearless curves are presented. The physical consequences of scenarios with multiple shearless curves are also discussed.

Transport Barriers in Symplectic Maps

R. L. Viana et al.

Summary: Chaotic transport is a crucial topic in plasma physics, where insights can be gained from simple dynamical systems like area-preserving maps. Systems that do not adhere to traditional KAM theory can exhibit novel dynamical features such as non-resistive reconnection, shearless curves, and shearless bifurcations.

Overview of plasma rotation studies on the TCABR tokamak

J. H. F. Severo et al.

Summary: Research on intrinsic plasma rotation in Ohmic L-mode discharges in the TCABR tokamak shows that poloidal rotation is in good agreement with neoclassical theory, while toroidal rotation is considered anomalous. Two models, the Helander model and Rozhansky model, are tested with results indicating that the frictional force proposed by Rozhansky might contribute to part of the observed intrinsic toroidal rotation in TCABR plasmas.

Onset of internal transport barriers in tokamaks

L. A. Osorio et al.

Summary: This study identifies primary and secondary shearless barriers in magnetically confined plasmas, with the primary barriers dependent on fluctuation amplitude and electric shear. The operations and breakdowns of these barriers are recurrent within certain parameter intervals, with the appearance of sticky particle trajectories being a noticeable feature. Additionally, previously unknown double and triple secondary shearless barriers are observed in bifurcations, acting as obstacles to chaotic transport.
