EEG Microstate-Specific Functional Connectivity and Stroke-Related Alterations in Brain Dynamics

Zexuan Hao et al.

Summary: This study proposed a microstate-based method to explore the differences in microstate dynamics between stroke patients and healthy populations. The results showed that each microstate class was associated with a distinct functional connectivity pattern, and stroke patients exhibited significant differences in most microstate parameters compared to healthy controls. Additionally, there were significant negative correlations between microstate-wise functional connectivity and lower limb motor scores.

EEG Fractal Analysis Reflects Brain Impairment after Stroke

Maria Rubega et al.

Summary: This study investigated the fractal changes in resting-state EEG signals after stroke, finding that both Higuchi index and Tortuosity values were significantly lower in stroke survivors, indicating less complex brain activity. These metrics show promise in tracking behavioral changes post-stroke and may be reliable biomarkers for neurorehabilitation.

EEG Microstates Predict Concurrent fMRI Dynamic Functional Connectivity States

Rodolfo Abreu et al.

Summary: Brain functional connectivity measured by resting-state fMRI has been found to vary over time scales, with recurrent dynamic functional connectivity states identified. These states are linked to different cognitive and pathological states, holding potential as disease biomarkers, but the neuronal mechanisms underlying them are still debated. Recurrent microstates in resting-state EEG studies have also been connected to large-scale network activity, and our study found that these EEG microstates can predict fMRI dFC states with high accuracy, supporting the idea that EEG microstates reflect the dynamics of brain networks.
