Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in primary sleep disorders

Giuseppe Lanza et al.

Summary: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is commonly used for non-invasive neuromodulation. Studies have shown its potential in treating sleep disorders through modulation of synaptic plasticity and connections between relevant brain areas. However, the efficacy of rTMS varies across different sleep disorders, with limited data available for certain disorders. Current evidence suggests that rTMS is safe and effective in chronic insomnia and restless legs syndrome, but not as effective in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and narcolepsy. Individualized stimulation protocols should be considered for better outcomes. This review contributes to the development of tailored neuromodulatory techniques for sleep disorders.

Effects of Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation on Alzheimer's Disease

L. Gu et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis explored the therapy effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) on different cognitive domains in Alzheimer's disease (AD). The results showed that rTMS had significant immediate and long-term effects on general cognitive function in AD patients, while tDCS had no significant therapy effect on cognitive function in AD.

Awareness in severe Alzheimer's disease: a systematic review

N. J. O'Shaughnessy et al.

Summary: Our study found that lower level sensory awareness is relatively maintained in severe AD, while findings for higher level awareness are variable. Environmental and contextual factors have a significant impact on the presence of awareness in individuals with severe AD.

Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms in Dementia (BPSD) and the Use of Antipsychotics

Valeria Calsolaro et al.

Summary: Dementia, particularly Alzheimer's disease, is a growing global concern affecting millions of individuals. Treatment for behavioral and psychological symptoms should be carefully considered, weighing the advantages and limitations of antipsychotic drugs.
