Rethinking the association between overweight/obesity and ADHD in children: a longitudinal and psychosocial perspective

S. O. Donnchadha et al.

Summary: This study examines the association between ADHD and overweight/obesity in children, and finds that while there is a relationship between the two, it is largely explained by other psychosocial factors.

ADHD in childhood predicts BMI and body composition measurements over time in a population-based birth cohort

Thais Martins-Silva et al.

Summary: This study aimed to test the association between ADHD and body composition, and evaluate the potential causal relationship with obesity. The results showed that ADHD symptoms at 11 years predicted higher BMI at 15 years and were associated with body fat composition in adulthood.

Anxiety and Depression from Childhood to Young Adulthood: Trajectories and Risk Factors

Devon LoParo et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the growth and correlation of anxiety and depression levels from middle childhood to early adulthood, and to determine the predictors of these levels. The findings suggest that academic achievement, learning disabilities, and externalizing symptoms are the strongest predictors of anxiety and depression levels. Both depression and anxiety follow a quadratic growth trajectory and are highly correlated.

Do ADHD-impulsivity and BMI have shared polygenic and neural correlates?

Edward D. Barker et al.

Summary: There is a clear link between ADHD, impulsivity features, and overweight/obesity, with neural and polygenic correlates playing a role in this association. The study found shared neural substrate associated with impulsivity symptoms, BMI, and their respective polygenic risk scores, indicating a common genetic liability for ADHD and BMI. Impulsivity symptoms and BMI were also mediated by neuroimaging substrate, revealing a potential underlying mechanism for their phenotypic association.

Mothers' nonstandard work schedules and adolescent obesity: a population-based cross-sectional study in the Tokyo metropolitan area

Yuko Kachi et al.

Summary: The study found a significant association between mothers' nonstandard work schedules and adolescent obesity in high-income families, but this association was no longer significant after adjusting for confounders. There was no clear association between mothers' nonstandard work schedules and adolescent obesity in low-income families. Policy makers should consider mothers' work schedules as a factor in preventing adolescent obesity.

Transdiagnostic neuroimaging of reward system phenotypes in ADHD and comorbid disorders

Oliver Grimm et al.

Summary: ADHD is a disorder characterized by changes in the reward system and highly comorbid with other mental disorders, suggesting common neurobiological pathways. Neuroimaging findings in the reward system have been studied in ADHD, obesity, depression, and substance use disorder, highlighting potential common dysregulation that may underlie diverse presentations.
