KEGG for taxonomy-based analysis of pathways and genomes

Minoru Kanehisa et al.

Summary: KEGG is a manually curated database resource that integrates various biological objects classified into systems, genomic, chemical, and health information. Through the KEGG identifier and URL links, users can retrieve and browse information for different biological objects, including pathway maps, hierarchy, and genomes. KEGG has also improved KO assignment annotation and included more eukaryotic genomes for better representation of organisms in the taxonomic tree. The taxonomy mapping enables analysis of the conservation of functional and physical links among genes in different organism groups.

Transcriptome Analyses of Near Isogenic Lines Reveal Putative Drought Tolerance Controlling Genes in Wheat

Sina Nouraei et al.

Summary: This study analyzed gene expression profiling in wheat to investigate the genetic control of drought tolerance. The researchers identified candidate genes and genetic markers associated with the qDSI.4B.1 locus, which can be used in breeding programs for drought tolerance. The study also revealed the biological processes involved in the response to drought stress.

Identification and characterization of genome-wide resistance gene analogs (RGAs) of durian (Durio zibethinus L.)

Cris Q. Cortaga et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the resistance gene analogs (RGAs) of durian and identified 2586 RGAs in its genome. These RGAs were functionally annotated and characterized through gene ontology (GO) analysis. The findings provide a valuable resource for genetic, agronomic, and other biological research of this important tropical fruit crop.

P. P. Anand et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the gall inducing habit of a highly host specific eriophyid mite, Aceria pongamiae, on Pongamia pinnata, revealing significant variations in cell metaplasia and polarities of laminar surfaces during gall formation. Additionally, variations in antioxidative potency, elemental composition, and ATR-FTIR pattern of gall formation were observed in different age groups of galls.

Comparative transcriptome analyses for metribuzin tolerance provide insights into key genes and mechanisms restoring photosynthetic efficiency in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Roopali Bhoite et al.

Summary: Research indicates that weeds pose a significant threat to the sustainability of wheat cropping systems, and studying the genotypes of Chuan Mai 25 and Ritchie contributes to understanding the mechanisms and key genes associated with metribuzin tolerance. Transcription factors MYB, AP2-EREBP, ABI3VP1, bHLH, NAC are significantly expressed under metribuzin stress, offering promising avenues for enhancing metribuzin tolerance.

Optical maps refine the bread wheat Triticum aestivum cv. Chinese Spring genome assembly

Tingting Zhu et al.

Summary: This research successfully refined the genome sequence of bread wheat cv. Chinese Spring (CS), improving the v1.0 assembly by filling gaps and correcting the positions and orientations of some scaffolds. With increased contiguity, the numbers of transposable elements and intact TEs have increased, along with the high-confidence gene models mapped onto the new assembly. The reconciled assembly enhances the utility of the sequence for genetic mapping, comparative genomics, and studies on the biology of wheat.

The Rice GLYCINE-RICH PROTEIN 3 Confers Drought Tolerance by Regulating mRNA Stability of ROS Scavenging-Related Genes

Jae Sung Shim et al.

Summary: OsGRP3 acts as a positive regulator in rice drought tolerance and modulates the transcript level and mRNA stability of stress-responsive genes, including ROS-related genes. Additionally, OsGRP3 contributes to reducing ROS accumulation during drought stress. Our results suggest that OsGRP3 alleviates ROS accumulation by regulating the mRNA stability of ROS-related genes under drought stress, thereby conferring drought tolerance.

Biology, distribution and control of the invasive species Ulex europaeus (Gorse): A global synthesis of current and future management challenges and research gaps

Jason Roberts et al.

Summary: Ulex europaeus is a highly invasive shrub that negatively impacts the land economically and environmentally. The spread of this species is facilitated by its ability to germinate in various conditions and produce a large number of viable seeds annually. Effective management techniques, such as herbicide application and integrated approaches, are necessary to control the spread of U. europaeus and prevent further damage to the environment. Future research should focus on developing sustainable long-term management strategies to limit the impact of this invasive species.

Characterisation of a 4A QTL for Metribuzin Resistance in Wheat by Developing Near-Isogenic Lines

Rudra Bhattarai et al.

Summary: Breeding metribuzin-resistant wheat through genetic improvement is crucial for weed control in wheat production. A major QTL on wheat chromosome 4A has been identified as responsible for a significant portion of metribuzin resistance. Near-isogenic lines (NILs) play a key role in converting quantitative traits into Mendelian factors for better resolution of the QTL.
