Advances in the Mining of Disease Resistance Genes from Aegilops tauschii and the Utilization in Wheat

Hongyun Kou et al.

Summary: Aegilops tauschii is a harmful weed affecting wheat production and serves as the wild ancestor of the D genome of hexaploid wheat. It contains valuable disease resistance genes missing in cultivated wheat, making it an important genetic resource for wheat disease resistance breeding. Recent completion of Aegilops tauschii genome sequence has provided a solid foundation for further exploration of disease resistance genes in wheat. This paper analyzes and reviews the relationship between Aegilops tauschii and wheat, research progress on Aegilops tauschii, discovery of disease resistance genes, and their application in modern wheat breeding, offering insights for utilizing Aegilops tauschii in wheat disease resistance breeding.

Linking Multi-Omics to Wheat Resistance Types to Fusarium Head Blight to Reveal the Underlying Mechanisms

Fan Wu et al.

Summary: Fusarium head blight (FHB) caused by Fusarium graminearum is a destructive disease for wheat production, and the resistance mechanism is complex with different types of resistances. Studying the resistance mechanism of FHB in wheat using multi-omics methods can help identify critical genes or pathways and improve FHB resistance in wheat breeding programs.

Integration of meta-QTL discovery with omics: Towards a molecular breeding platform for improving wheat resistance to Fusarium head blight

Tong Zheng et al.

Summary: This study presents a new strategy for identifying robust and reliable meta-QTL for improving wheat resistance to FHB. Through meta-analysis, 625 original QTL from 113 publications were consolidated into 118 genetic map-based mQTL, from which 77 high-confidence mQTL were selected. By analyzing transcriptomic and proteomic data, 17 genes related to FHB and locus-specific SNP and SSR markers were identified within the selected mQTL intervals.
