Comparison of surgical efficacy of locking plates and interlocking intramedullary nails in the treatment of proximal humerus fractures

Zheming Guo et al.

Summary: Locking plates and interlocking intramedullary nails were compared in the treatment of proximal humerus fractures. Interlocking intramedullary nails were found to be more minimally invasive, but required longer time for fracture reduction and fixation. There was no significant difference in pain and shoulder function scores between the two internal fixation strategies for the treatment of proximal humerus fracture.

Summary: This study evaluated the optimal placement of calcar screws in proximal humerus fracture surgeries and found that in locking plate fixation, postoperative complications significantly increased when the vertical ratio of calcar screws exceeded 0.1713.
