Transcriptome landscape of the late-stage alcohol-induced osteonecrosis of the human femoral head

Lu Li et al.

Summary: Heavy ethanol consumption can lead to osteonecrosis, with ADH1B significantly upregulated in alcohol-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (AIONFH). Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) show potential as biomarkers for diagnosis and treatment of AIONFH, with unique expression profiles distinguishing AIONFH from other types of osteonecrosis. Further studies are needed to confirm the specific upregulation of ADH1B in AIONFH patients who consume excessive alcohol.

Association of Dietary Total Antioxidant Capacity with Bone Mass and Osteoporosis Risk in Korean Women: Analysis of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2008-2011

Donghyun Kim et al.

Summary: The study suggests that dietary total antioxidant capacity (TAC) is negatively associated with the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and positively associated with bone mass in both pre- and postmenopausal women.

Oxidative Stress and Osteoporosis

Jeff S. Kimball et al.

Summary: Oxidative stress has been implicated as a potential cause of osteoporosis, and a diet rich in antioxidant-containing plant foods along with lifestyle changes may help improve bone density and reduce fracture risk. More research is needed to determine the exact role of antioxidants in preventing and treating osteoporosis.

Circulating Alpha-Tocopherol Levels, Bone Mineral Density, and Fracture: Mendelian Randomization Study

Karl Michaelsson et al.

Summary: Recent cohort studies have shown a causal link between increased circulating alpha-tocopherol and greater bone mineral density, with no association with the odds of fractures. This suggests the need for intervention studies targeting individuals with low dietary intake of alpha-tocopherol, as well as Mendelian randomization studies focusing on fragility fractures as an outcome.

Vitamin A and its dervatives effect on bone mineral density, a systematic review

Qamar Khojah et al.

Summary: Most of the included studies showed a favorable effect of vitamin A on bone mineral density, however, the exact role and mechanism remain unclear and further research is needed.
