Spontaneous and postsurgical/traumatic Klebsiella pneumoniae meningitis: two distinct clinico-microbiological entities

Guillaume Rollin et al.

Summary: This study analyzed and compared the characteristics and outcomes of spontaneous meningitis (SM) versus postsurgical/traumatic meningitis (PSTM) caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae. The results showed that SM cases were more severe than PSTM cases, with higher septic shock and in-hospital mortality rates. Additionally, the strains recovered from SM displayed hypervirulent phenotypic and genotypic characteristics.

Prospective randomized comparative study of percutaneous catheter drainage and percutaneous needle aspiration in the treatment of liver abscess

Meraj Ahmed et al.

Summary: The study found that PCD was more effective than PNA in treating liver abscesses, with significant differences in duration of antibiotic use, time for clinical improvement, reduction in abscess cavity size, and treatment success rate between the two groups, while long-term outcomes were comparable.

The Impact and Burden of Neurological Sequelae Following Bacterial Meningitis: A Narrative Review

Nicoline Schiess et al.

Summary: Neurological sequelae following meningitis can have devastating effects on patients, families, and communities, with high mortality rates and survivors often experiencing various neurological disabilities. Limited research exists on the long-term consequences, age-related outcomes, and socioeconomic impact of this condition, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Addressing these gaps is crucial for understanding and mitigating the burden of bacterial meningitis-related disabilities.

Community-acquired bacterial meningitis

Diederik van de Beek et al.

Summary: Progress has been made in the prevention and treatment of community-acquired bacterial meningitis, but the disease burden remains high globally. Diagnosis and treatment should take into account the unique clinical characteristics and various examinations, with treatment plans being adjusted according to local conditions.
