Telerehabilitation for Stroke is Here to Stay. But at What Cost?

Kate Laver et al.

Summary: The use of telerehabilitation has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and although evidence supporting its efficacy is limited, current systematic reviews suggest that it is not inferior to face-to-face treatment. However, challenges such as inclusivity, differences in online interactions, and supporting staff fatigue need to be addressed for widespread adoption.

Implementing the PREP2 Algorithm to Predict Upper Limb Recovery Potential After Stroke in Clinical Practice: A Qualitative Study

Louise A. Connell et al.

Summary: The PREP2 prediction tool was successfully implemented in clinical practice at ADHB in New Zealand, with implementation primarily driven by therapists. Key factors included support from the implementation team, staff knowledge, beliefs, and self-efficacy, as well as perceived benefits of having PREP2 prediction information. A total of 26 implementation strategies were identified in three areas: implementation team, clinical/academic partnerships, and training.

Effectiveness of Telerehabilitation in Physical Therapy: A Rapid Overview

Pamela Seron et al.

Summary: Despite contradictory results, telerehabilitation in physical therapy shows promise in improving conditions such as osteoarthritis, low-back pain, hip and knee replacement, and multiple sclerosis, as well as in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation settings. Further high-quality clinical trials and systematic reviews are needed to provide clearer evidence for professionals to make informed decisions. This will ultimately lead to better clinical outcomes for patients, both during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
