Quantum Dots for Cancer-Related miRNA Monitoring

Catarina S. M. Martins et al.

Summary: Quantum dots (QDs) with exceptional optoelectronic properties are widely used in various applications, especially in the medical field. Recent studies have shown that micro ribonucleic acids (miRNAs) play a crucial role in cancer. Therefore, using fluorescent quantum dots as biosensors for miRNA detection is of great significance. This review aims to summarize the latest methods of using QDs to detect miRNA and provide tutorial descriptions of synthesis methods, surface modification, and functionalization approaches.

Single-Atom Iron Enables Strong Low-Triggering-Potential Luminol Cathodic Electrochemiluminescence

Wenling Gu et al.

Summary: In this study, iron single-atom catalysts were used as efficient co-reaction accelerators to achieve strong cathodic electrochemiluminescence at an ultralow potential. The catalysts activate H2O2 to produce reactive oxygen species, which directly react with a luminol to generate intense emission.

Elucidating Orbital Delocalization Effects on Boosting Electrochemiluminescence Efficiency of Carbon Nitrides

Yanfeng Fang et al.

Summary: Efficient inter-conversion of different types of energy is crucial in science and technology. Electrochemiluminescence (ECL), a light emission excited by electrochemical reactions, has gained attention for its potential in addressing global energy, environment, and health challenges. However, the ECL efficiency (phi(ECL)) of most luminophores in aqueous solutions is low, limiting their applications. This study focuses on carbon nitride (CN) as a model luminophore and identifies orbital delocalization as a key factor in its phi(ECL). By increasing the condensation temperature, the orbital delocalization of CN is improved, leading to enhanced electron injection and photon emission in ECL. As a result, the cathodic phi(ECL) of CN is significantly improved.

Tunable 0D/2D/2D Nanocomposite Based on Green Zn-Doped CuInS2 Quantum Dots and MoS2/rGO as Photoelectrodes for Solar Production

Faying Li et al.

Summary: Charge separation, transmission, and light absorption properties are critical to the performance of photoelectrochemical devices, and these properties can be controlled by using heterostructured materials. This study designs a tunable zero-dimensional/two-dimensional heterostructure based on quantum dots and 2D nanosheets. The optimized heterostructure exhibits significantly higher activity in solar hydrogen production compared to other materials, due to enhanced light absorption, efficient charge separation, and transmission.
