Enhanced elimination of Cr(VI) from aqueous media by polyethyleneimine modified corn straw biochar supported sulfide nanoscale zero valent iron: Performance and mechanism

Haoran Tian et al.

Summary: A novel polyethyleneimine modified corn straw biochar supported sulfide nanoscale zero-valent iron (S-nZVI@PBC) was developed to enhance the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous media. The characteristics of S-nZVI@PBC and its mechanism for Cr(VI) removal were explored, and it was found that the adsorption process followed a pseudo-second-order model and Langmuir isotherm model. The primary mechanisms for Cr(VI) removal were adsorption, reduction, and co-precipitation. S-nZVI@PBC showed higher stability and reusability compared to nZVI, making it a promising tool for treating Cr(VI)-containing wastewater.

Insights into the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution using plant-mediated biosynthesis of iron nanoparticles

Runqin Hao et al.

Summary: Green tea extract was utilized as a reducing and coating agent in the synthesis of iron nanoparticles for the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. Kinetic and thermodynamic analysis suggested an adsorption mechanism best described by Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second order models, with adsorption found to be spontaneous and endothermic. Advanced characterization techniques, such as SEM-EDS, TEM and XPS, revealed a detailed mechanism involving both adsorption and redox reactions.
