Environmentally friendly preparation of lignin/paraffin/epoxy resin composite-coated urea and evaluation for nitrogen efficiency in lettuce

Xiaojuan Chen et al.

Summary: Novel lignin/paraffin/epoxy resin composite coated urea (LPECCU) was successfully prepared, with improved slow-release properties and excellent biodegradability. The growth study of lettuce showed that LPECCU could improve the total dry matter accumulation and N use efficiency compared to conventional urea.

Foliar application of silicon improves growth of soybean by enhancing carbon metabolism under shading conditions

Sajad Hussain et al.

Summary: The experiment showed that shading reduced the net assimilation rate and growth of soybeans, but foliar application of Si significantly improved photosynthetic rate and growth parameters under both normal light and shade conditions, leading to increased yield. Si proved effective in enhancing photosynthetic efficiency and lodging resistance in intercropped soybeans.

Foliar Application of Different Vegetal-Derived Protein Hydrolysates Distinctively Modulates Tomato Root Development and Metabolism

Angela Valentina Ceccarelli et al.

Summary: This study found that protein hydrolysates (PHs) have biostimulant activity by modulating plant hormone profiles and secondary metabolism to promote root growth and enhance crop resilience to stress. The research also demonstrated that PHs from different botanical sources have distinctive metabolomic responses, indicating that a generalized crop response to PHs cannot be defined and specific effects need to be investigated.

Preparation of a novel lignin-based film with high solid content and its physicochemical characteristics

Xiaojuan Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, alkali lignin (AL) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) were polymerized with hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) to form a high solid content lignin-based polyurethane film (LPF), with the effects of different -CNO/-OH molar ratios on LPF properties systematically evaluated. The results showed that increasing the -CNO/-OH molar ratio led to an increase in elasticity modulus, tensile strength, water contact angle, and pencil hardness of LPFs, while the elongation at break decreased. Additionally, the LPFs exhibited strong crosshatch adhesion and excellent biodegradability.
