Immune gene activation by NPR and TGA transcriptional regulators in the model monocot Brachypodium distachyon

Kohei Shimizu et al.

Summary: This study reveals the important role of the NPR gene family in the SA signaling pathway in the model monocot Brachypodium distachyon. BdNPR2 positively regulates the transcription of PR1 mediated by BdTGA1 through SA binding, while BdNPR1 functions as a suppressor of BdNPR2/BdTGA1-mediated transcription of PR1.

Whole-cell bacterial biosensor for volatile detection from Pectobacterium-infected potatoes enables early identification of potato tuber soft rot disease

Boris Veltman et al.

Summary: In this study, a whole-cell bacterial biosensor was developed to detect potato tuber soft rot disease. The biosensor relies on the luminescent responses of the bacteria panel to changes in the volatile organic compound (VOC) profiles following infection. The results show that this biosensor system can improve crop management during postharvest, storage, and transport to reduce food losses.

Controlling pepper soft rot by Lactobacillus paracasei WX322 and identification of multiple bacteriocins by complete genome sequencing

Teng Qi et al.

Summary: Bacterial soft rot is a devastating disease that affects vegetables. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB), such as Lactobacillus paracasei WX322 and its bacteriocin, have shown effective antibacterial activities against various foodborne pathogens, including the soft rot pathogen Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. brasiliense BZA12 (Pcb BZA12). The complete genome sequencing of L. paracasei WX322 revealed new bacteriocin gene clusters, enhancing our understanding of its antibacterial activity.
