Emerging biological functions of ribonuclease 1 and angiogenin

Emily R. Garnett et al.

Summary: Pancreatic-type ribonucleases (ptRNases) are a family of vertebrate-specific secretory endoribonucleases that catalyze the degradation of RNA substrates and mediate biological functions. Two ptRNases, RNase 1 and angiogenin, are known to be involved in inflammation, blood coagulation, neovascularization, cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and cellular stress response. Further research is ongoing to elucidate the biology of these and other ptRNases.

Angiogenin promotes angiogenesis via the endonucleolytic decay of miR-141 in colorectal cancer

Chunhua Weng et al.

Summary: This study reveals that angiogenin (ANG) promotes proliferation, migration, tube formation, and angiogenesis of HUVECs by downregulating miR-141, consequently regulating CRC progression. Targeting ANG's nuclease activity may be valuable in treating angiogenesis-related diseases.

Characterization and Function of the Interaction of Angiogenin With Alpha-Actinin 2

Chunhua Weng et al.

Summary: This study mapped the accurate binding domains of ANG and ACTN2, finding a critical residue in the interaction and important residues in the middle of ACTN2 rod structure. Functional analysis showed that overexpression of a specific ACTN2 segment could inhibit tumor cell motility and proliferation by interfering with the interaction between ANG and ACTN2, providing a potential mechanism for ANG in tumor growth and metastasis.
