Green synthesis of Ag nanoparticles from Leucus aspera and its application in anticancer activity against alveolar cancer

Huagen Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, silver nanoparticles were synthesized using the extract of Leucus aspera as a stabilizing and reducing agent. The nanoparticles showed significant anti-alveolar cancer activity without toxicity to normal cells. The results suggest that the anti-alveolar cancer activity of the synthesized nanoparticles may be attributed to their antioxidant properties.

In vitro anticancer activity of silver nanoparticles phyto-fabricated by Hylocereus undatus peel extracts on human liver carcinoma (HepG2) cell lines

S. Shyamalagowri et al.

Summary: Every year, millions of people die from cancer, and the development of effective anticancer drugs is crucial. In this study, dragon fruit peel aqueous extract fabricated silver nanoparticles (DFPAE-AgNPs) were synthesized using a facile and green chemistry approach as a new potential anticancer agent. The DFPAE-AgNPs were spherical in shape, with a size range of 10-50 nm, and contained 73.90% silver element. The IC50 value of the DFPAE-AgNPs was found to be 37.98 +/- 0.21 μg/mL for the HepG2 cell line. The results also showed a dose-dependent increase in apoptosis in HepG2 cells treated with DFPAE-AgNPs. These findings suggest that DFPAE could be a reliable and active phytoconstituent for the fabrication of AgNPs with anticancer properties.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Recent Advances in Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) for Cancer Diagnosis, Target Drug Delivery, and Treatment

Sumaira Anjum et al.

Summary: Despite advancements in medicine, cancer remains a deadly and somber disease caused by uncontrolled cell proliferation. Traditional medications and chemotherapies have limitations such as reduced bioavailability and significant side effects. Nanotechnology has rapidly evolved and offers potential in healthcare, with nanoscale materials showing promise in cancer treatment due to their low risk. Zinc oxide nanoparticles have demonstrated their potential in diagnosing and treating various cancers due to their biocompatibility and unique properties. Their ability to induce reactive oxygen species in cancer cells, leading to apoptosis, makes them effective in targeted drug delivery.
