Transcriptome analysis reveals long non-coding natural antisense transcripts involved in muscle development in fetal goat (Capra hircus)

Siyuan Zhan et al.

Summary: In this study, 466 antisense lncRNAs (ASlncRNAs) were identified in the longissimus dorsi muscle of goats. These ASlncRNAs were found to be potentially involved in muscle development by negatively regulating the expression of target genes and producing miRNA precursors. This research provides a catalogue of goat muscle-related ASlncRNAs and contributes to a better understanding of the roles of ASlncRNAs in muscle development.

Natural antisense transcripts as drug targets

Olga Khorkova et al.

Summary: The recent discovery of vast non-coding RNA-based regulatory networks has opened up new therapeutic possibilities using nucleic acid-based drugs. Long non-coding RNA, particularly natural antisense transcripts (NATs), plays a significant role in disease-relevant biological mechanisms. Current efforts are focused on utilizing these NAT-mediated biological mechanisms for therapeutic purposes. This review highlights the recent clinical and pre-clinical developments in this field, as well as the advances in nucleic acid-based drug technologies that enable these developments.
