Characteristics and atmospheric processes of water-soluble ions in PM2.5 and PM10 over an industrial city in the National Capital Region (NCR) of India

Lovleen Gupta et al.

Summary: This study investigates the formation mechanism, water content and acidity of water-soluble inorganic ions in ambient aerosols in an industrial city in India. The results show that sulfate ions, nitrate ions, chloride ions and ammonium ions contribute significantly to the mass of PM2.5 and PM10. The highest contribution of water-soluble inorganic ions was observed in winter and monsoon seasons.

Impact of vehicular movement on road dust resuspension and spatiotemporal distribution of particulate matter during construction activities

Dheeraj Alshetty et al.

Summary: The study revealed the significant impact of resuspended road dust on PM concentrations in the surrounding environment of construction sites, with heavy-duty vehicle transport of excavated soil contributing to peak PM concentrations at night. The total deposition fraction of PM10 in construction worker's airway during the construction phase was found to be 74-78%, followed by PM2.5 (23-54%) and PM1 (20-25%).

Current status of source apportionment of ambient aerosols in India

Shweta Yadav et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of particulate matter (PM) pollution in India and the current status of source apportionment (SA) studies. The findings reveal that only a small number of studies have accurately analyzed the contributions from different sources of PM. The majority of studies focus on the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) and the Indo-Gangetic plain, with PM10 and PM2.5 being the most studied size fractions. The review also discusses the steps and techniques involved in SA and proposes recommendations for future research on robust SA studies.
