The ASAS-SN bright supernova catalogue - V. 2018-2020

Summary: We catalogued and analyzed a sample of 2427 supernovae (SNe) discovered by ASAS-SN, including 443 bright SNe, 519 recovered SNe, and 516 additional SNe missed by ASAS-SN. Our focus was on the 984 SNe discovered or recovered in ASAS-SN g-band observations. We obtained updated data on peak magnitudes, redshifts, spectral classifications, and host galaxy identifications, and found that the ASAS-SN sample is almost complete up to m(peak) = 16.7 mag and 90% complete for m(peak) <= 17.0 mag, an improvement compared to the V-band sample.

Radio observations of the tidal disruption event AT2020opy: a luminous non-relativistic outflow encountering a dense circumnuclear medium

Summary: Tidal disruption events (TDEs) occur when a star is destroyed by tidal gravitational forces from a close encounter with a supermassive black hole. A recent study reports the radio detection of a TDE called AT2020opy, which is the most distant thermal TDE with radio emission observed so far. The study also finds that the host galaxy of AT2020opy has a denser circumnuclear medium than other thermal TDEs detected in the radio band. The radio-emitting outflow of AT2020opy is likely launched around the time of or just after the initial optical flare, and no evidence of relativistic motion is found.

The Early Phases of Supernova 2020pni: Shock Ionization of the Nitrogen-enriched Circumstellar Material

Summary: We present multiwavelength observations of the Type II SN 2020pni. Our study reveals that the progenitor of the supernova experienced enhanced mass loss during the last year before explosion, with a inferred mass-loss rate of (3.5-5.3) × 10(-3) M year(-1) and enrichment in helium and nitrogen. Additionally, an increase in velocity of hydrogen lines and the presence of dense and complex circumstellar material were observed in the initial 4 days.

A fast-rising tidal disruption event from a candidate intermediate-mass black hole

Summary: Massive black holes are commonly found in the centers of massive galaxies, but their presence in dwarf galaxies is not yet known. AT 2020neh is a fast-rising tidal disruption event candidate hosted by a dwarf galaxy, which provides a potential method of measuring the masses of intermediate-mass black holes. The observable rate of such events is found to be low, which highlights the importance of finding non-accreting black holes in dwarf galaxies and understanding their prevalence within these galaxies.

The Hubble constant from two sibling Type Ia supernovae in the nearby galaxy NGC 4414: SN 1974G and SN 2021J

Summary: Having two sibling Type Ia supernovae in the same galaxy allows for a more precise estimation of the Hubble constant. By observing and measuring the luminosity of SN 2021J and SN 1974G in NGC 4414, researchers obtained a new estimate of the Hubble constant.
