Reshaping our understanding on structure formation with the quantum nature of the dark matter

C. R. Arguelles et al.

Summary: We study the impact of the quantum nature of dark matter particles on the nonlinear structure formation in cosmology. Unlike cosmological N-body simulations, we utilize a thermodynamic approach to analyze the self-gravitating fermion systems, where dark matter halos achieve a steady state by maximizing a coarse-grained entropy. This approach provides insights into crucial open questions in cosmology, including the mass and nature of dark matter particles, the formation of supermassive black holes in the early universe, the nature of intermediate mass black holes in small halos, and the core-cusp problem.

Kinetic theory of collisionless relaxation for systems with long-range interactions

Pierre-Henri Chavanis

Summary: This study develops the kinetic theory of collisionless relaxation for systems with long-range interactions, specifically in relation to Lynden-Bell's statistical theory. The authors discuss the multi-level case and establish the connection between the kinetic equation derived from the quasilinear theory of the Vlasov equation and the relaxation equation obtained from a maximum entropy production principle. They propose a method to close the infinite hierarchy of kinetic equations and obtain a generalized Landau, Lenard-Balescu, or Kramers equation for the coarse-grained distribution function. The authors also explore the analogies with two-dimensional turbulence and potential applications to fermionic and bosonic dark matter halos.

Hinting a dark matter nature of Sgr A* via the S-stars

E. A. Becerra-Vergara et al.

Summary: The motion data of S-stars around the Galactic Centre gathered in the last 28 yr suggests that Sgr A* hosts a supermassive compact object close to 4 x 10(6) solar masses, not a traditional black hole, possibly related to a core-halo distribution of dark matter termed "darkinos." By using astrometry data of S2 and G2, the alternative nature of Sgr A* as a dense core of darkinos is confirmed and extended.

On the formation and stability of fermionic dark matter haloes in a cosmological framework

Carlos R. Arguelles et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the core-halo structure formed by dark matter fermions is stable and extremely long-lived, able to explain galaxy rotation curves and mimic central black holes. For a certain range of particle masses, core-collapse only occurs under specific conditions in the given cosmological framework.

Numerical simulations of dark matter haloes produce polytropic central cores when reaching thermodynamic equilibrium

Jorge Sanchez Almeida et al.

Summary: Cores are present in self-gravitating systems of dark matter and can be used as evidence for systems in thermodynamic equilibrium. Theoretical expectations of core formation are consistent with numerical simulations when thermalizing collisions are allowed.
