Assessing the Influence of Input Magnetic Maps on Global Modeling of the Solar Wind and CME-Driven Shock in the 2013 April 11 Event

Meng Jin et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively assesses the influence of magnetic field map input on the global modeling of solar wind and CME-driven shock. The results show that the input magnetic map significantly affects the simulated background solar wind, CME-driven shock properties, and spacecraft connectivity. The study highlights the importance of considering the model uncertainty due to limited magnetic field coverage when using the model for research or space weather forecasting.

Quantitative Evaluation of Coronal Magnetic Field Models Using Tomographic Reconstructions of Electron Density

Shaela Jones et al.

Summary: We introduce a new quantitative approach for assessing the quality of coronal magnetic field models. The method compares the location of the magnetic neutral line in the magnetic field model with the locations of localized density peaks in the coronal electron density.

Constraining Global Coronal Models with Multiple Independent Observables

Samuel T. Badman et al.

Summary: This study evaluates global coronal models using multiple observational datasets and provides a standardized framework for model comparison. The results show that optimizing models for both coronal holes and streamer belt topology is currently challenging. Additionally, models with additional physics improve the representation of coronal holes compared to traditional models.

Solar Polar Flux Redistribution Based on Observed Coronal Holes

Samuel J. Schonfeld et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of observed polar coronal holes to constrain the flux distribution within the polar regions of global solar magnetic field maps. The findings show that modifications to the polar flux can improve predictions for coronal holes and solar wind, and that low-latitude magnetic fields have a significant impact on setting the boundaries of polar coronal holes.
