Gaia Data Release 3 Summary of the content and survey properties

A. Vallenari et al.

Summary: The third data release of the Gaia mission includes a wide range of new data products, such as an expanded radial velocity survey and extensive astrophysical characterisation. This release provides unprecedented quantity, quality, and variety of source astrophysical data, including spectrophotometry, radial velocities, variables, and astrophysical parameters. It will greatly enhance the potential of Gaia's astrometric, photometric, and radial velocity surveys.

New predictions for radiation-driven, steady-state mass-loss and wind-momentum from hot, massive stars III. Updated mass-loss rates for stellar evolution

R. Bjorklund et al.

Summary: This study aims to derive theoretical mass-loss rates for hot, massive stars and analyze their behavior in the OB-star regime and their effects on massive-star evolution predictions. Dynamically consistent models are computed by solving the equation-of-motion for a large grid of hot, massive stars with different metallicities. A new prescription for steady-state, radiation-driven mass-loss is provided, and the results show that the new rates allow for the creation of black holes of higher masses compared to previous models.

Spectroscopic and evolutionary analyses of the binary system AzV 14 outline paths toward the WR stage at low metallicity

D. Pauli et al.

Summary: The origin of Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars in low-metallicity galaxies is not yet understood. This study analyzes the massive O star, AzV 14, to investigate the evolutionary paths from O-type to WR stage. The analysis shows that AzV 14 is a close binary system with two main sequence stars, and the binary evolutionary models can explain the observed parameters and predict the evolution into WR stars with different temperatures.

Effects of rotation on the spectroscopic observables of massive stars

M. Abdul-Masih

Summary: This study aims to determine the impact and degree of neglecting the 3D deformations caused by rapid rotation on the final spectroscopic observables. By comparing synthetic spectra considering spherical and 3D geometry, we find that the 3D geometry has a significant impact on the measured parameters, including temperature, helium abundance, and rotation rates of lines in different ionization states. Neglecting the 3D effects of rotation can cause significant biases in the measured spectroscopic parameters.

The earliest O-type eclipsing binary in the Small Magellanic Cloud, AzV 476: A comprehensive analysis reveals surprisingly low stellar masses

D. Pauli et al.

Summary: Through a comprehensive study of the eclipsing binary system AzV 476 in the Small Magellanic Cloud, we obtained consistent current masses for both components (around 20 solar masses and 18 solar masses) and effective temperatures of 42 kK and 32 kK. The binary evolutionary model revealed that the primary star has lost about half of its initial mass and is now in the core helium burning phase.

Semidetached Mass-transfer Massive Binaries in the Nearby Galaxy M31

F-X Li et al.

Summary: By analyzing the light curves of 12 eclipsing binaries in the Andromeda galaxy, it is discovered that they are semidetached binaries. The mass ratio of the primary stars is correlated with their fill-out factor, and the secondary components are more evolved than the primary ones, indicating mass-reverse evolution.

Stellar wind properties of the nearly complete sample of O stars in the low metallicity young star cluster NGC 346 in the SMC galaxy

M. J. Rickard et al.

Summary: The study finds that the commonly used theoretical mass-loss predictions for O stars tend to overestimate the mass-loss rates. The relationship between mass-loss rates and luminosity in O stars at low metallicity is steeper than expected by the theoretical models. In NGC 346, only the most luminous stars dominate the ionisation feedback, and the weak stellar winds and absence of previous supernova explosions limit the kinetic energy input.

Cygnus X-1 contains a 21-solar mass black hole-Implications for massive star winds

James C. A. Miller-Jones et al.

Summary: The evolution of massive stars is influenced by mass lost to stellar winds, which ultimately impact the masses of stellar remnants, such as black holes. A study using radio astrometry to refine the distance to the black hole x-ray binary Cygnus X-1 found the black hole mass to be 21.2 solar masses, higher than previous measurements. Formation of such high-mass black holes in high-metallicity systems within the Milky Way constraints wind mass loss from massive stars.
