Filaments in the OMC-3 cloud and uncertainties in estimates of filament profiles

M. Juvela et al.

Summary: The properties of filamentary structures in star-forming interstellar clouds were compared using mid-infrared absorption and far-infrared dust emission in the Orion Molecular Cloud 3 (OMC-3). The results show that the widths of the OMC-3 filaments were consistent between the mid-infrared and far-infrared analyses. However, there were potential sources of systematic error, particularly at high column densities and in weak radiation fields.

The interstellar dust emission spectrum Going beyond the single-temperature grey body

Francois-Xavier Desert

Summary: This study aims to go beyond the single-temperature grey-body approximation by considering a temperature distribution and advocating the use of the temperature logarithm as the proper variable. The results show the existence of a universal analytical spectrum if the interstellar medium is relatively homogeneous, and the radiative interaction between the cosmic microwave background and the dust spectrum is demonstrated. In addition, a universal ladder of discrete temperatures is constructed for a fast and accurate fitting of dust emission spectra.

Synthetic Next Generation Very Large Array line observations of a massive star-forming cloud

M. Juvela et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the physical conditions within massive star-forming clouds using magnetohydrodynamic simulation data and synthetic observations, with a focus on the potential of the ngVLA interferometer. The ngVLA proved capable of providing accurate data on small-scale structures and physical states in high-mass star-forming regions at kiloparsec distances.

Summary: A comparative study was conducted on several dust models, revealing differences in dust mass despite similar fit quality. Despite variations in carrier definitions, all physical models exhibit consistent spatial changes in dust grain abundance.

Investigating Cold Dust Properties of 12 Nearby Dwarf Irregular Galaxies by Hierarchical Bayesian Spectral Energy Distribution Fitting

Zhengxue Chang et al.

Summary: The study found that excess emission at 850 microns is more easily detected in dwarf irregular galaxies with low star formation activity, and may decrease or disappear as galaxies evolve. Additionally, the cold dust temperature may increase with more intense star formation in the galaxies.
