Comparing Nonoperative Treatment, MPFL Repair, and MPFL Reconstruction for Patients With Patellar Dislocation: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis

Summary: A systematic review was conducted to compare the efficacy and safety of MPFL reconstruction, MPFL repair, and nonoperative treatment for patellar dislocation. MPFL reconstruction was found to significantly reduce redislocation and improve Kujala scores compared to MPFL repair and nonoperative treatment. MPFL repair showed lower redislocation rates compared to nonoperative treatment, but did not show clear benefits in primary dislocations. There was no significant difference in revision rates and complications among the three treatments, with nonoperative treatment having the lowest likelihood of treatment-related complications.

Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction With or Without Derotational Distal Femoral Osteotomy in Treating Recurrent Patellar Dislocation With Increased Femoral Anteversion: A Retrospective Comparative Study

The results showed that MPFL-R with DDFO had lower rates of residual graft laxity and residual J-sign, as well as higher Kujala and Lysholm scores postoperatively, especially in patients with a high-grade J-sign preoperatively.
