Cardiac rehabilitation designed for patients with obesity: OPTICARE XL RCT results on health-related quality of life and psychosocial well-being

Iris den Uijl et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of a new cardiac rehabilitation program for obese patients with standard rehabilitation in improving health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and psychosocial well-being. The results showed that the OPTICARE XL CR did not have added value in improving HRQOL and psychosocial well-being in patients with obesity.

Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior in Cardiac Rehabilitation: Does Body Mass Index Matter?

Iris den Uijl et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with ACS who have obesity had lower physical activity levels and longer sedentary time during cardiac rehabilitation, compared to those with normal weight. However, all BMI classes showed improvement in physical activity and sedentary behavior during CR, which was maintained post-rehabilitation. This suggests a need to reconsider the current CR program in the Netherlands for obese patients with ACS and develop more inclusive interventions to improve outcomes.
