Genetic characterization and antimicrobial profiling of bacterial isolates collected from Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) affected by summer mortality syndrome

Shimaa E. Ali et al.

Summary: In recent years, Egyptian tilapia aquaculture has experienced mortality episodes during the summer months. The most prevalent pathogens causing these mortalities were Aeromonas spp., Vibrio spp., and Streptococcus agalactiae. Other emerging infections and antibiotic resistance genes were also detected. The findings highlight the possible role of identified bacterial pathogens in tilapia summer mortality syndrome and the risk of irresponsible antibiotic use in aquaculture.

Distribution and antimicrobial resistance of Vibrio parahaemolyticus isolated from fish and shrimp aquaculture farms along the Korean coast

Jong Soo Mok et al.

Summary: The study revealed the widespread presence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus in aquaculture environments along the Korean coast, with higher levels observed during the summer to autumn seasons. While the majority of V. parahaemolyticus isolates were sensitive to most antimicrobials tested, they exhibited higher resistance to colistin and ampicillin.

Antibiotic resistance in shellfish and major inland pollution sources in the drainage basin of Kamak Bay, Republic of Korea

Sang Hyeon Jeong et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the occurrence and distribution of antibiotic resistance in oyster sampling sites and major inland pollution sources in the drainage basin of Kamak Bay, Republic of Korea. The research found high percentages of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in discharge water from small fishing villages without WWTPs, but low isolation rates of antibiotic-resistant E. coli in oysters due to minimal impact from major inland pollutants.
