Downregulation of NF-kB signaling is involved in berberine-mediated protection of crucian carp (Carassius auratus gibelio) from cyprinid herpesvirus 2 infection

Meizhen Su et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the plant alkaloid berberine can effectively inhibit the expression and replication of CyHV-2 in crucian carp through negative regulation of the NF-xB signaling pathway. This indicates that berberine has the potential to serve as a small molecular drug for controlling CyHV-2 infection in fish. The findings also show that berberine can attenuate inflammatory injury and viral load in CyHV-2-infected crucian carp cell lines in a dose-dependent manner.

Production and application of monoclonal antibodies against ORF66 of cyprinid herpesvirus 2

Baoqin Guo et al.

Summary: Cyprinid herpesvirus 2 (CyHV-2) is the main pathogen causing haematopoietic necrosis disease in goldfish and gibel carp, with a lack of rapid and effective immunological detection technology. In this study, anti-CyHV-2 ORF66 monoclonal antibodies were developed, which can not only detect the virus presence but also provide a research tool for studying the role of ORF66 in CyHV-2 infection.

Development and characterization of monoclonal antibodies specific for cyprinid herpesvirus 2

Lupin Zhao et al.

Summary: This study produced six monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) against CyHV-2 using purified antigens, which were able to specifically detect and attenuate the virus in infected fish cells. The MAbs also showed the potential to identify specific virus proteins and provide a practical basis for further study of CyHV-2.

Protective effects of egg yolk immunoglobulins (IgY) on juvenile groupers (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus x Epinephelus lanceolatus) with red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus infection

Jiaoyun Liu et al.

Summary: The highly infectious and lethal Red-spotted Grouper Nervous Necrosis Virus (RGNNV) can be effectively neutralized by IgY extracted from the egg yolks of immunized hens. In vivo protection assays on groupers showed significant protection against RGNNV infection, indicating the potential for developing anti-RGNNV products.

Incidence of Carassius auratus Gibelio Gill Hemorrhagic Disease Caused by CyHV-2 Infection Can Be Reduced by Vaccination with Polyhedra Incorporating Antigens

Tingting Zhang et al.

Summary: Encapsulating vaccines into protein microcrystals for stable delivery is a promising approach, as demonstrated by this study focusing on vaccinating gibel carp against CyHV-2 using polyhedra. The results showed that the vaccine proteins encapsulated in polyhedra could be protected from degradation, and vaccinated fish exhibited increased antibody titers and survival rates following CyHV-2 challenge, suggesting a novel strategy for developing aquaculture microencapsulated vaccines.

Summary: The study aimed to develop a reliable grass carp model with disrupted intestinal microbiota using different concentrations of antibiotics. The effects of various antibiotic regimens on microbiota composition, growth, health status, and histology in different organs were compared. The highest antibiotic concentration was found to significantly disrupt microbiota composition without substantial negative effects on growth and health in grass carp, suggesting this regimen as a suitable option for disrupting intestinal microbiota.
