Gas-liquid slug flow in microfluidic heat exchanger: Effect of gas hold-up and bubble size on pressure drop and heat transfer

M. P. Vasilev et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the experimental investigation of gas-liquid segmented flow as a method of enhancing microfluidic heat exchangers (MFHE), specifically looking at the influence of gas volume fraction. The research found that the highest heat transfer coefficient is achieved when the bubble size matches the channel diameter, corresponding to a gas hold-up of 12%. Experimental studies also demonstrated that segmented flow can increase Nu up to 1.54 times and reduce thermal resistance by 1.67 times compared to single-phase flow.

Mass transfer of chemical absorption of CO2 in a serpentine minichannel

Zifan Pang et al.

Summary: The absorption kinetics and mass transfer of CO2 in potassium carbonate solution in a serpentine minichannel were studied based on an online method. Three flow patterns were observed, with the length of bubbles decreasing linearly in slug flow. The results showed that the average bubble velocity was only related to gas and liquid flow rates, and the instantaneous mass transfer coefficients increased with bubble mass transfer directionally in slug flow, indicating that convection in liquid slug controlled the mass transfer in the channel.

Gas-Liquid Taylor Flow Characteristics in a Fractal Microchannel Network during Numbering-up and Sizing-up

Yaheng Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, the characteristics of gas-liquid Taylor flow in a fractal microchannel network were investigated using numerical modeling and experiments. Significant size effects were observed in different sized channels, with changes in gas-liquid flow rate ratios affecting slug and bubble lengths. The stability of the flow pattern deteriorated at high gas velocities, with swirling vortices observed in the liquid slug.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of microchannel junction angles on bubble and slug size in Taylor flow with a vertical squeezing route through experiments and theoretical models. It was found that changes in channel angles can affect the generation of bubbles and slugs, with varying reactions to flow rate changes. These findings can be utilized for precise control of bubble and slug generation for targeted applications.
