Determination of thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat capacity of porous silicon thin films using the 3ω method

Sobhan Erfantalab et al.

Summary: The thermal transport properties of low thermal conductivity porous silicon thin films attached to high thermal conductivity silicon substrates were studied using the 3 omega method. The extracted thermal properties showed a reduction in thermal conductivity and diffusivity as the porosity of the films increased. After passivation, the films exhibited higher values of thermal conductivity and diffusivity. The ability to extract both thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity for these films removes the need to make assumptions around specific heat capacity.

3ω techniques for measurement of volumetric heat capacity and anisotropic thermal conductivity of a solution processable, hybrid organic/inorganic film, Te-PEDOT:PSS

Carlos Forsythe et al.

Summary: A new approach using the 3 omega method has been developed for measuring the thermal properties of anisotropic films of hybrid materials. This method allows for the measurement of volumetric heat capacity and anisotropic thermal conductivity using relatively simple sample configurations, without the need for advanced lithography. The study reveals a significant anisotropy in the thermal conductivity of the test material, consistent with its nanoscale morphology.

Enabling high-porosity porous silicon as an electronic material

Xiao Sun et al.

Summary: This study focused on refining microfabrication processes to enable electrical studies of high porosity porous silicon films, with the goal of optimizing the electrical properties for microelectronic and optoelectronic sensors. The impact of measurement techniques on these fragile films was also evaluated, with findings indicating the need for methods to isolate the porous silicon from the substrate to ensure accurate measurements.

Noise Improvement of a-Si Microbolometers by the Post-Metal Annealing Process

Jaesub Oh et al.

Summary: This study improved the noise characteristics of uncooled microbolometers through the post-metal annealing process, reducing resistance and increasing the temperature coefficient of resistance. The noise characteristics were inversely proportional to the width of the resistance layer, resulting in improved image quality.

Summary: Introducing notches at the four corners of the top mirror minimizes bowing of the top mirror significantly. Lattice mismatch at the PS/silicon interface is likely the key factor controlling the stress in multilayer PS thin films. Micromachining techniques can be tuned to reduce stress mismatch and absorption loss in the LWIR range.
