Thermo-economic assessment of salt hydrate-based thermochemical heat transformer system: Heat upgrade for matching domestic hot water production

Wei Li et al.

Summary: Efficient energy storage technology is essential for renewable energy deployment, and thermochemical heat transformers (THT) offer a promising solution. This article proposes a pressurisation-assisted sorption THT system driven by low-grade solar thermal energy for domestic hot water (DHW) production. The study investigates the thermodynamic and economic performances of different salt hydrates and determines the optimal options for energy density and temperature lift. The results demonstrate the significant potential of the pressurisation-assisted THT system for heat upgradation targeting DHW production.

Thermal performance improvement of AHP using corrugated heat exchanger by dip-coating method with mass recovery

Fang He et al.

Summary: This study focuses on enhancing the cooling performance of adsorption heat pumps. A filling method called dip-coating method is introduced to improve the heat transfer and packing density of the corrugated heat exchanger (HEX). The experimental results show that the dip-coating method can effectively enhance the COP and SCP of the heat pump cooling system.

Modelling and Analysis of Ammonia Sorption Reactions in Halide Salts

S. Hinmers et al.

Summary: This work focuses on developing an accurate method for testing and modeling the reaction kinetics of ammonia-salt adsorption reactions. A Large Temperature Jump (LTJ) test cell is used to validate a new approach to modeling the behavior and performance of chemisorption machines. The model is implemented in a MATLAB (R) program and has been validated using experimental data from LTJ tests.

Encapsulation of Salt Hydrates by Polymer Coatings for Low-Temperature Heat Storage Applications

Bas G. P. van Ravensteijn et al.

Summary: Efficient and cheap storage of energy from renewable resources is crucial for the ongoing energy transition. Storing heat in thermochemical materials (TCMs) like salt hydrates can meet this demand by capturing heat reversibly and loss-free. However, a persistent bottleneck in full-scale application is the low mechanical resilience of salt grains and their tendency to coagulate or dissolve when in contact with water vapor. Encapsulating salt grains with stabilizing polymer coatings, such as cellulose-based coatings, can enhance their structural integrity and permeability, making them suitable for domestic TCM-based heat storage applications.
