Forecasting solar-thermal systems performance under transient operation using a data-driven machine learning approach based on the deep operator network architecture

Julian D. Osorio et al.

Summary: Modeling and predicting the dynamic behavior of thermal systems under intermittent energy input and variable load requirements is a significant challenge in the development of renewable-based power generation technologies. A data-driven machine learning framework, based on a modified Deep Operator Network architecture, accurately predicts the performance of renewable-based energy conversion technologies. The framework was applied to a solar-thermal system and compared with a physics-based model, showing good performance in various operation scenarios.

Study on Outlet Temperature Control of External Receiver for Solar Power Tower

Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study designed and modelled a 100 MW external cylindric receiver for a solar tower, established a dynamic and comprehensive model, applied a temperature control strategy, and verified its validity through disturbance experiments. The thermal lag characteristics and dangerous occasions of the receiver during operation were revealed, pointing out both the robustness and the deficiencies of the control strategy. These research results will contribute to the formulation of the control strategy for solar power tower stations.
