The positive effects of power ultrasound on Portland cement pastes and mortars; a study of chemical shrinkage and mechanical performance

Ahmad Ehsani et al.

Summary: The direct application of power ultrasound (PUS) was found to increase the concentration of aluminium in the pore solution of Portland cement (PC) pastes, as well as the aluminate and carbonates. The effect of PUS on the rate and extent of PC hydration was investigated, and the compressive and flexural strength of PC mortars were evaluated. The results showed that applying 26 and 132 kHz frequencies of PUS to the cement paste increased the rate of chemical shrinkage, and the use of 26 kHz PUS resulted in higher strength development over the 91-day curing period.

Clarification of regimes determining sonochemical reactions in solid particle suspensions

Kunpeng Su et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of solid particles in sonochemical reactions. It was found that the addition of particles in dilute suspensions enhanced the sonochemical yields, while further addition in semi-dilute suspensions decreased the yields. Two mechanisms were identified based on the particle characteristics that influenced the effects.

Agglomeration of particles by a converging ultrasound field and their quantitative assessments

Tianquan Tang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on utilizing acoustic radiation force to achieve organized arrangement and clustering of microscopic particles, presenting a new bulk acoustic wave platform for particle manipulation. Experimental results show that factors such as particle size, concentration, and load voltage influence the transition of particles from clustering at nodal arrays to agglomerating in the central region, with the possibility of achieving high particle clustering ratios.
