Functional CeOx nanoglues for robust atomically dispersed catalysts

Xu Li et al.

Summary: Single-atom catalysts make efficient use of noble metals but suffer from limited stability. This study presents a strategy of confining atomically dispersed metals on oxide nanoclusters, which are immobilized on a high-surface-area support, to enhance stability. The resulting catalyst exhibits improved performance in CO oxidation under both oxidizing and reducing environments at high temperatures.

Reversible transformation between terrace and step sites of Pt nanoparticles on titanium under CO and O2 environments

Yang Ou et al.

Summary: Understanding the dynamic evolution of active sites of supported metal catalysts during catalysis is crucial for improving its performance. In this study, the transformation between surface terrace and step sites of Pt-TiO2 catalysts under CO and O-2 environments was investigated using in situ transmission electron microscopy and in situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results showed that the conversion between terrace sites and step sites was reversible, and gas treatments could enhance the catalytic activity of Pt-TiO2 catalysts by tuning the surface-active sites.

Oxidative coupling of methane over Y2O3 and Sr-Y2O3 nanorods

Yuqiao Fan et al.

Summary: Y2O3 nanorods were prepared by a hydrothermal method, with Sr-modified Y2O3 nanorods synthesized by an impregnation method. The addition of a small amount of Sr to Y2O3 nanorods enhances the activation of oxygen and the amount of moderate basic sites, improving the oxidative coupling of methane performance. The study found that the C2-C3 yield achieved on the Y2O3-based catalysts correlated well with the amount of moderate basic sites present on the catalysts.

In situ manipulation of the active Au-TiO2 interface with atomic precision during CO oxidation

Wentao Yuan et al.

Summary: The interface between metal catalyst and support is critical in heterogeneous catalysis. The study found that the atomic structure of the Au-TiO2 interface depends on the epitaxial rotation of gold nanoparticles on a TiO2 surface during CO oxidation. Manipulation of the active Au-TiO2 interface was achieved in situ by changing gas and temperature, suggesting real-time design of catalytic interface in operating conditions may be possible.

Unique structure of active platinum-bismuth site for oxidation of carbon monoxide

Bing Nan et al.

Summary: By adding bismuth as a dopant to form platinum-bismuth clusters on silica, researchers have discovered a highly active catalyst for CO oxidation at low temperatures. The catalyst exhibited a high CO2 production rate and demonstrated surface Pt-O-Bi structure as the active site for CO oxidation via electron transformation between platinum atoms and carbon monoxide. These findings provide a unique and general approach for designing potential excellent performance catalysts for redox reactions.
