Unveiling the effect of crystal facets on piezo-photocatalytic activity of BiVO4

Fei Wang et al.

Summary: This work investigates the role of crystal facet in the piezo-photocatalysis process through experiments and theoretical calculations. BiVO4 crystals with different facets were prepared and their piezocatalytic, photocatalytic, and piezo-photocatalytic activities were evaluated. The results show that different crystal facets have varying bandgaps, carrier concentrations, charge separation abilities, piezoelectric potentials, and reactant adsorption activities, which directly impact the catalytic performance. The piezo-photocatalysis exhibits higher performance compared to isolated catalysis, and the crystal facet with lower photocatalytic efficiency can be improved by its stronger built-in piezoelectric potential. These findings shed light on the facet-activity piezo-photocatalysis and provide an effective method for developing high-performance catalysts through facet engineering.

Phase Control of Cobalt Selenide: Unraveling the Relationship Between Phase Property and Hydrogen Evolution Catalysis

Zhou Zhou et al.

Summary: This study presents a facile wet-chemical method for synthesizing metastable orthorhombic phase CoSe2 (o-CoSe2) and stable cubic phase CoSe2 (c-CoSe2). The phase-dependent hydrogen evolution performance of CoSe2 in photo- and electrocatalysis is demonstrated. The results show that o-CoSe2 exhibits better electrocatalytic performance while c-CoSe2 shows higher photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate. The study provides insights into the relationship between phase structure and hydrogen evolution catalysis.
