Surface Properties and Mechanical Performance of Ti-Based Dental Materials: Comparative Effect of Valve Alloying Elements and Structural Defects

Agata Sotniczuk et al.

Summary: The study revealed that both valve-alloying elements and structural defects can individually have a positive impact on the properties of titanium oxide layers in fluoridated medium, but they do not necessarily have to act synergistically.

Polymorphic nature of {332} ⟨113⟩ twinning mode in BCC alloys

P. Kwasniak et al.

Summary: The novel TWIP/TRIP titanium alloys exhibit unprecedented mechanical properties controlled by {332} <113> twinning and stress-induced martensitic transformation, whose atomic-scale mechanism is still unclear. Through ab initio calculations and experiments, the authors show that {332} <113> twinning can be described as a polymorphic solid-state transformation that produces twinned or martensitic structures, with a unified transformation path influenced by beta phase stability.

Mechanobiologically optimized Ti-35Nb-2Ta-3Zr improves load transduction and enhances bone remodeling in tilted dental implant therapy

Chuanyuan Mao et al.

Summary: This study developed a novel TNTZ implant with low elastic modulus, high strength, and favorable biocompatibility for tilted implantation. The results showed that the TNTZ implant exhibited better mechanobiological characteristics, including improved load transduction and increased bone area, in the tilted implantation model compared to the commonly used TC4 implant, especially in the lower stress upper 1/3 region of the pen-implant bone.

Hydroxyapatite-modified micro/nanostructured titania surfaces with different crystalline phases for osteoblast regulation

Pinliang Jiang et al.

Summary: The surface structures and physicochemical properties of titanium implants play a crucial role in osseointegration. Studies have shown that surfaces with micro- and nanoscale roughness can efficiently regulate cell-material interaction. The introduction of ultrathin hydroxyapatite on micro/nanostructured surfaces with optimized crystalline phase benefits cell proliferation, differentiation, and maturation, indicating potential for enhanced implant osseointegration in vivo.
