Corrosion effects on the nanotribology of a Ni62Nb38 metallic glass

W. S. Chae et al.

Summary: The study found that the properties of the oxide layers on the surface of Ni62Nb38 alloy differ in different acidic solutions, affecting friction and wear. After corrosion in nitric acid, wear is reduced; while in hydrochloric acid, plowing is suppressed and adhesion and material transfer dominate friction and wear.
