Biogenic H2S and extracellular electron transfer resulted in two-coexisting mechanisms in 90/10 Cu-Ni alloy corrosion by a sulfate-reducing bacteria

Yanan Pu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) of 90/10 copper-nickel alloy in the presence of anaerobic Desulfovibrio vulgaris. The corrosion rate of the alloy varies with different energy starvation levels due to varying biogenic H2S concentrations and extracellular electron transfer (EET) by D. vulgaris. Biogenic H2S causes degradation of the passive films generated on the alloy. The presence of 20 ppm riboflavin accelerates the weight loss of the alloy by 52%. The EET routes result in localized corrosion of the nickel component in the alloy. Two types of MIC mechanisms coexist in the 90/10 Cu-Ni alloy MIC by D. vulgaris.

Construction of Z-scheme WO3-Cu2O nanorods array heterojunction for efficient photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue

Jingjing Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a Z-scheme core-shell WO3-Cu2O nanorods array was synthesized via one-step hydrothermal and electrochemical deposition method. The effects of electrodeposition time on the performance of the products were investigated. The results showed that the optimum Cu2O deposition time was 120 s. The deposited Cu2O nanoparticles enhanced the visible light absorption and inhibited the recombination of photogenerated carriers. The photoelectrochemical measurement also demonstrated the improved separation of photogenerated carriers. Overall, the Z-scheme WO3-Cu2O core-shell heterojunction played a crucial role in enhancing the photocatalytic activity.

Summary: This study successfully addresses the challenges of charge transfer and light capture ability in multifunctional photocatalytic surfaces by constructing a sponge-like N,S-CQDs/Bi2MoO6@TiO2 film. The ternary film exhibits enhanced photocatalytic efficiency under visible and near-infrared light and effectively achieves photocatalytic sterilization of bacteria under visible light irradiation. The improved photocatalytic efficiency is attributed to the introduction of surface-functional N,S-CQDs and the construction of N,S-CQDs/Bi2MoO6@TiO2 Z-scheme system.

Summary: In this study, a Fe-g-C3N4/Bi2WO6 Z-scheme heterojunction was elaborately designed for the degradation of tetracycline (TC). The performance of H2O2 decomposition in the Z-scheme heterojunction was improved by the doping of iron, enhancing the transportability of photogenerated electrons and facilitating the spread of radicals. The study also found that O-1(2) and center dot O-2- were the main active species participating in the degradation process, according to efficacy analyses and experimental results.
