Probing topological quantum phase transitions via photonic spin Hall effects in spin-orbit coupled 2D quantum materials

Muzamil Shah

Summary: In this paper, the photonic spin Hall effect (PSHE) of reflected light from the surface of the topological silicene quantum systems is investigated theoretically. The research demonstrates extreme values of spin-dependent shifts near Brewster's angles and away from the optical transition frequencies.

Electrically tunable Goos-Hanchen shift in two-dimensional quantum materials

Muzamil Shah

Summary: This study theoretically investigates the tunable Goos-Hanchen (GH) shifts in silicene under the influence of an external electric field and circularly polarized light. The research reveals that topology and spin-orbit interactions play a crucial role in the beam shifts and topological quantum phase transitions of the material, which can be efficiently probed through nanoscale GH shifts.

Polarization manipulation of giant photonic spin Hall effect using wave-guiding effect

Monu Nath Baitha et al.

Summary: This study reports on the enhanced photonic spin Hall effect using wave-guiding surface plasmonic resonance, achieving polarization manipulation for both horizontal and vertical polarized waves. The addition of a glass dielectric thin wave-guiding layer enables the realization of the photonic spin Hall effect in millimeter-scale. The research has potential applications for quantum devices and sensors based on both horizontal and vertical polarization.

Bifacial-metasurface-enabled pancake metalens with polarized space folding

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a pancake metalens that can fold optical path at will using a metacavity, enabling compact imaging systems. The asymmetric and independent functions of the bifacial metasurface are verified, and subsequently, the polarized spacefolding effect of the metacavity is demonstrated. With specifically designed phase, a pancake metalens with on-demand reduction of imaging distance and relatively good imaging performance is achieved.

A novel non-enzymatic glucose sensor based on gold-nickel bimetallic nanoparticles doped aluminosilicate framework prepared from agro-waste material

Fatemeh Amiripour et al.

Summary: Functionalized porous nanomaterials have been used as novel substrates for constructing efficient catalysts in sensors. The sensor based on multi-walled carbon nanotube and NX material, with AuNi bimetallic nanoparticles obtained from agro-waste, demonstrated high sensitivity in detecting nanomolar concentration of glucose. The presence of NX in the sensor and the creation of abundant active sites through NX contributed to the success of non-enzymatic detection of glucose.

Spin Hall effect of transmitted light for graphene-silica aerogel photonic crystal in terahertz region

Peng Dong et al.

Summary: By introducing graphene monolayers into adjacent silica aerogel layers of photonic crystal, significant enhancement of the spin Hall effect for transmitted light in the terahertz region has been achieved. The spin shift is highly sensitive to the period number and Fermi energy of the graphene layers, and mainly determined by the phase of Fresnel transmission coefficients. Two different tuned regions have been revealed: a low frequency region with giant spin shift over broad angle and frequency ranges, and a high frequency region with gradually enhanced spin shift as the period number increases.

Valley and spin polarized quantized spin dependent photonic shifts in topological silicene

Muzamil Shah et al.

Summary: This article discusses the magneto-optical and electro-optical modulation of the photonic spin Hall effect in the terahertz regime of topological silicene-substrate quantum systems, influenced by external electric and magnetic fields. These 2D materials feature a tunable band gap and quantized spin-dependent shifts due to Landau level quantization, with sensitivity to the spin and valley indices of Dirac fermions. The giant photonic spin Hall effect in these materials shows potential for surface sensors, spin-dependent beam splitters, precision meteorology, and quantum information processing.
