Combining ?-Conjugation and Cation-? Interaction for Water- Stable and Photoconductive One-Dimensional Hybrid Lead Bromide

Tariq Sheikh et al.

Summary: Hybrid lead halide perovskites and their derivatives are important optoelectronic materials, but their water instability is a major challenge in material design. In this study, a hybrid lead halide perovskite derivative system, (4,4'-VDP)Pb2Br6, was designed using the concepts of pi-conjugation and cation-pi interaction. The system exhibited improved photoconductivity and water stability due to the electronic communication between the Pb-Br units and the intermolecular cation-pi interaction throughout the organic sublattice.

Chiral-phonon-activated spin Seebeck effect

Kyunghoon Kim et al.

Summary: Researchers have discovered that chiral phonons in non-magnetic materials can generate spin currents in response to a thermal gradient, without the need for ferromagnetic contacts. This finding suggests the potential application of chiral phonons in spin caloritronics and offers a new route for spin generation in the absence of magnetic materials.

Quantifying Anionic Diffusion in 2D Halide Perovskite Lateral Heterostructures

Shuchen Zhang et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively investigates in-plane thermally driven anionic inter-diffusion in a series of novel 2D and quasi-2D halide perovskites lateral heterostructures, revealing that bulky pi-conjugated organic cations inhibit Br-I inter-diffusion and halide diffusion is faster in quasi-2D structures compared to 2D structures. Molecular dynamics simulations provide insights into mechanisms for suppressing diffusion.

Alkyl-Aryl Cation Mixing in Chiral 2D Perovskites

Liang Yan et al.

Summary: The study presents a new type of 2D hybrid perovskites with a unique combination of chirality and alkyl-aryl functionality, determined by noncovalent intermolecular interactions in their crystal structures. The mixed-cation perovskites exhibit a circular dichroism distinct from purely chiral cation analogues, providing a new avenue for tuning the chiroptical properties of known chiral perovskites. Mixing chiral cations with achiral cations may offer a potential way to tailor the spin-based properties in 2D hybrid perovskites.
