A comparison of the rheological behavior of xanthan gum and diutan gum aqueous solutions

G. P. Mota et al.

Summary: This study conducted a thorough rheology characterization of aqueous solutions of xanthan and diutan gums, and obtained information about their rheological properties at different temperatures. The Power Law model fits the pseudoplastic behavior of these solutions well. The aqueous solution of xanthan gum exhibits a gel behavior, while the aqueous solution of diutan gum forms a gel structure. Xanthan gum solution shows thermal degradation, while diutan gum solution exhibits good thermal stability.

High velocity impact on a thin (non-Newtonian) fluid layer

B. Veltkamp et al.

Summary: In this study, the squeeze flow of thin fluid layers during high velocity impact on a solid surface was experimentally investigated. It was found that the amount of viscous dissipation determines the remaining fluid in the contact after the object's kinetic energy is absorbed. Newtonian and shear thinning fluids can be completely drained from the contact on a short time scale, while viscoelastic liquids cannot be drained due to their elastic tendency to retract back into the contact after rapid squeezing. Furthermore, the experimental results were consistent with the predictions of hydrodynamic theory applied to the fluid flow in the gap.

Instrumental characterization of xanthan gum and scleroglucan solutions: Comparison of rotational rheometry, capillary breakup extensional rheometry and soft-contact tribology

Xinxin Li et al.

Summary: This study compares the properties and interactions of xanthan gum and scleroglucan using a range of instrumental techniques. The results show significant differences in rheological and lubrication behavior between the two hydrocolloids, although these differences are greatly diminished when formulated in a concentrated sucrose solution. Additionally, no specific interactions were observed between the hydrocolloids and salivary proteins or mucin.

Micro-elastography: Toward ultrasonic shear waves in soft solids

G. Laloy-Borgna et al.

Summary: Through phantom experiments, ultrasonic shear waves at 20.4kHz were observed, and it was found that the Kelvin-Voigt model can predict a frequency upper bound. According to this model, the maximum error of elasticity estimation when viscosity is neglected is 40%.

A Study on Tunable Viscoelastic Properties of Xhantan Gum and Sodium Alginate Hyrogelling System

Guler Bengusu Tezel

Summary: The study investigated the viscoelastic properties of the XG and SA hydrogelling system at different mixing ratios, finding that higher XG ratios result in longer viscoelastic relaxation times. Physical gel network formations were confirmed through SEM imaging of XG-SA.
